Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Many things can cause stress. People react to the causes of stress differently. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Causes of stress in the workplace include being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, working under dangerous conditions among other causes. There are also life stresses. These emanate from the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, getting married and much more.

The cause of someone’s stressful situation can be themselves. One might stress themselves when they worry too much about certain things. The fear of certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can make a person worry a lot hence resulting to stress. Stress is a form of mental instability. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. Stress has negative health implications. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. The worst can happen with some of these health implications of stress. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.

The simple tips of dealing with stress are as follows. Stressed people are advised to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Nicotine and caffeine are known to be stimulants. People mistake these substances for reducing the stress levels but in the real case they increase it. Aalcohol, on the other hand, is a depressant in large quantities but not an effective way of dealing with stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. This is because lack of sleep has been identified as a cause of stress. Another tip of managing stress is the utilization of the relaxation techniques. Most of them are tried and tested.

Physical exercise is another method of managing stress. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. It is not a must for someone to do a vigorous physical exercise to achieve this. One can even walk in fresh air. Working out on a daily basis is even a much better remedy.

Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. Exercise has the effect of pumping endorphins into the body. These are brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters. The irritations of the day can be forgotten following an exercise session. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
